Florida Encounter is environmentally conscious and proud to give back to the community!

Here are some of the efforts in place to accomplish this important goal:

  • This year’s host property, Sawgrass Golf Resort & Spa, a Marriott Resort , is a Marriott Certified Green Resort and is pursuing their Florida Green Lodging certification.
The Florida Green Lodging Program was established in 2004 by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) with the intent of recognizing and rewarding environmentally conscientious lodging facilities in the state. Through this rapidly growing program DEP encourages the lodging industry to conserve and protect Florida’s natural resources. The Florida Green Lodging Program is unique in that it covers an all-inclusive list of environmental initiatives that are specific to the Florida environment.  Please see www.dep.state.fl.us/greenlodging/about.htm for more information on this program.
  • In an effort to reduce every attendee's carbon footprint and to promote clean energy, VISIT FLORIDA will purchase carbon offsets. A carbon offset is a certificate representing the reduction of one metric ton (2,205 lbs) of carbon dioxide emissions, the principal cause of global warming. This purchase will fund projects such as wind farms that reduce carbon emissions. Please see www.terrapass.com for more information.
  • Recycle bins will be set up throughout the function area.
  • Surplus food from the meal functions will donated to a local food bank.
  • 100% of the proceeds of the Silent Auction will go to a local charity (TBD).
  • Depending on the charity, all attendees will be encouraged to bring items to Florida Encounter for donation.
